Mike operates Burning River Farm. a chemical-free Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) vegetable farm outside of Frederic. The same year, 2007, he started the farm he became a member of the Natural Alternative Co-op.
Co-ops have been a part of Mike's personal culture for 25 years. In high school he worked at the Hastings, MN food co-op. He also worked briefly at the Seward Café in Minneapolis, a worker-run restaurant. These places drew Mike because of their commitment to cooperation, mutual aid and putting people first.
People often hear Mike saying, "You know, it makes life a lot easier having the Natural Alternative around.” For Mike, the co-op is a little badge of honor for our community.
Mike's commitment to the role we play in our community is a great asset. He brings experience of running an unorthodox business and making progress in good times and bad.
He does not presume to have all the solutions to what lies ahead for the co-op and the community it serves, but is a valuable part of finding those paths forward.
